SAN FRANCISCO, May 13, 2010—Duane Morris LLP is pleased to announce that Richard D. Hoffman joined the firm in its San Francisco office as a partner in its Insurance and Trial Practice Groups. His addition strengthens the firm's depth in insurance and commercial litigation in its growing San Francisco office. Duane Morris' Insurance Coverage and Risk Management Practice Group is consistently top-ranked by Chambers and Partners' surveys of the United States' legal profession. Hoffman joins Duane Morris from Nixon Peabody LLP.
Hoffman focuses his practice on commercial and insurance coverage issues. He advises corporations, professionals and fiduciaries—including attorneys, directors and officers, brokers and accountants—in insurance litigation. He represents insurers in coverage issues, civil actions, arbitrations and bad-faith claims and represents professionals and fiduciaries in direct actions against them. Hoffman has represented clients in trials and arbitrations involving coverage under specialty lines of insurance, bad-faith cases, legal malpractice actions, director and officer claims and general commercial litigation.
Hoffman is an associate member of the Lawyers Professional Liability Consortium of the ABA's Standing Committee on Lawyers Professional Liability and has made presentations at semi-annual meetings on topics that have included "The Mortgage Crisis and Real Estate Lawyer Liability" and "Fiduciary Liability of Attorneys." He has previously argued a case before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Hoffman earned his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and editor of Constitutional Law Quarterly. He received his B.A. with honors from the University of California, Los Angeles, in Political Science.
