Representative Matters
Secured a victory for the New Jersey Public Charter Schools Association, a charter school and charter school parents in a landmark, statewide desegregation suit brought by civil rights groups, including the NAACP and ACLU. These groups seek to abolish New Jersey’s municipal-based system of school enrollment, which they claim causes segregation in public schools. On summary judgment, the court dismissed claims blaming charter schools for causing or exacerbating segregation in the public schools.
Represented a physician who pled guilty in federal court in New Jersey to one count of wire fraud and one count of violating the anti-kickback in travel act stemming for accepting bribes from a pharmacy benefit manager to prescribe certain medications and exclusively refer lab work to that pharmacy. The client faced a maximum of 25 years’ incarceration, and the sentencing guidelines called for an incarceration term of 51-63 months, but ultimately, U.S. District Judge Kugler sentenced the client to only 15 months in prison, noting that counsel’s brief and the defendant’s letters of support were “impressive.”
