Sarah Fehm Stewart focuses her practice on complex commercial and business litigation, white-collar criminal defense, securities litigation and arbitration, and internal investigations. Ms. Stewart also has extensive experience in the areas of professional liability and ethics, environmental liability and remediation disputes, and media and communications law. She represents a variety of institutional and individual clients and provides advice on a wide array of corporate compliance and regulatory laws, including anti–money laundering rules and the FCPA.

Ms. Stewart has significant trial experience in both state and federal court, and has argued dispositive motions before numerous courts throughout New York and New Jersey. She also has experience supervising pre-trial discovery in complex matters and leading internal investigations into alleged employee or executive misconduct.

Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Stewart served as law clerk to the Hon. Lisa Chrystal of the New Jersey Superior Court.

Ms. Stewart is a 2012 graduate of The George Washington University Law School, where she was President of the Corporate and Business Law Society and a member of the Public Contract Law Journal, Alternative Dispute Resolution Skills Board and Black Law Student Association. Ms. Stewart is a 2007 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she debated as a member of the Parliamentary Debate Team.

Representative Matters

  • Represented an individual defendant in a criminal matter, who faced 41 to 51 months of incarceration under the applicable sentencing guideline range. After the client pleaded guilty in connection with a conspiracy to bribe government officials, the team successfully secured a 3 year probation sentence and the client avoided prison.

  • Represented renowned mooncake manufacturer Mei-Xin (Hong Kong) Limited, a subsidiary of Maxim’s Caterers Limited, in obtaining an appellate victory from the Third Circuit.  The Third Circuit reversed the grant of preliminary injunction against Maxim’s and Mei-Xin after Mei-Xin sought to terminate its distribution agreement with Golden Fortune Import & Export Corporation.

  • Represented former pharmaceutical executive, Martin Shkreli, to defend against allegations of monopoly maintenance and anticompetitive conduct under the Sherman Act, in Federal Trade Commission, et al. v. Vyera Pharmaceuticals LLC, et al. (S.D.N.Y).

  • Successfully defended corporate owner against complaint and order to show cause, which would have restrained owner from transacting business on behalf of the company. The complaint and order to show cause were both dismissed after the team filed a pre-answer motion to dismiss.

  • Represented shareholder against complaint filed by minority member. Secured pre-answer dismissal of the complaint.

  • Obtained dismissal of defamation complaint against TV station that published picture of individual misidentified by police as a criminal suspect.

  • Obtained dismissal of defamation and false light claims against government entity and official on basis of sovereign immunity.
