PHILADELPHIA and SAN DIEGO, December 29, 2021―Duane Morris has appointed Courtney Baird as vice chair for the firm’s Commercial and Antitrust Litigation (CAL) Division within the firm’s Trial Practice Group. Baird, a partner in the firm’s San Diego office, will lead the CAL group with James Steigerwald, a partner in the firm’s Philadelphia office and chair of CAL.
“Courtney has established herself as a key member of CAL as well as an engaged leader within Duane Morris and the legal industry in California. As vice chair, she will add a terrific perspective to our CAL Division,” said Wayne A. Mack, co-chair the firm’s Trial Practice Group. Added Sharon Caffrey, co-chair of the Trial Practice Group, “Courtney has served the firm and her clients with strategic thinking, and I look forward to her increased contributions as she takes on this new leadership role."
Baird, who joined Duane Morris in 2006 and was named partner in 2014, serves as outside counsel to businesses handling their compliance and risk management issues and in prosecution and defense of litigation. Working on behalf of companies across the United States and internationally, she represents clients in all forums, including federal and state courts and arbitration. Baird has extensive experience in complex litigation, including class actions, consumer claims, products liability, contracts, torts and the False Claims Act. Baird is licensed to practice in California and Nevada. She is the past chair of the Civil Litigation Section of the San Diego County Bar Association and has served on the Board of Governors for the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. Additionally, Baird is the past office chair for the Duane Morris Women's Impact Network for Success and currently serves as the hiring partner for the firm's San Diego office Summer Associate Program. Baird is a graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law and San Diego State University.
As a division within the firm’s Trial Practice Group, the firm’s CAL attorneys represent clients in all aspects of commercial relationships, including disputes involving the Uniform Commercial Code, contracts, business dissolutions, leveraged buyouts and other financial arrangements.
