NEW JERSEY, September 20, 2024―Duane Morris was named a 2024 Law360 New Jersey Powerhouse. The Law360 Regional Powerhouse series recognizes law firms in 14 states that routinely represent clients in deals and cases in those states and that garnered national attention. The firm has more than 50 attorneys in its North Jersey and South Jersey offices. The work of those attorneys representing clients in industries such as gaming, cannabis and real estate earned the firm the Law360 Regional Powerhouse designation.

Law360 reflected on the firm’s significant wins and projects throughout the past year. Those include:

Gaming and betting may be ubiquitous throughout the U.S. these days, but it wasn't too long ago that just about the only gaming site in the country outside of Las Vegas was Atlantic City. Duane Morris has honed its expertise with the industry over the years, representing many of its big corporate players, said Hersh Kozlov

The firm has also advised Green Thumb Industries on the local and state regulatory approvals necessary for an approximately 180,000-square-foot cultivation facility in Hackettstown that Duane Morris represents and that would be the largest cannabis cultivation and manufacturing site in the state. That follows its work for the company in a commercial lease and development dispute over the original proposed site. "We've been fortunate as a firm to really be on the forefront of cannabis work," said Paul Josephson, a partner and litigator with the firm. "I'm particularly proud of our work for Green Thumb."

Duane Morris also focuses much of its work in densely populated New Jersey on the high-stakes real estate industry, including a successful representation of BNE Real Estate Group—one of the largest property owners in the state—in litigation involving contract terms for residential leases. The putative class action involved claims under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act over chargeback provisions and discounting practices common in many leases in the wake of the pandemic, Josephson said. Following oral argument in October 2023, the judge adopted Duane Morris's arguments for a motion to dismiss. "In the context of any class action, avoiding class certification, avoiding discovery is a huge win for the client," Josephson said. "We're super proud of that win."

The firm was recently interviewed by Law360 for their New Jersey Powerhouse honor.
