Each was the only lawyer selected for this honor from his respective practice area and city. Lawyers are selected based on high marks in the peer-review assessments conducted annually by Best Lawyers.
Alexander J. Gonzales has been selected as the “Lawyer of the Year” in Austin for Insurance Law. Gonzales practices in the areas of corporate and insurance regulatory law. He serves as a team lead for the Duane Morris Insurance/Reinsurance industry group. For more than 30 years, Mr. Gonzales has represented insurance companies and other financial institutions in regulatory matters, including mergers and acquisitions; company formation and licensing; administrative and compliance proceedings in insurance, antitrust, market conduct, DTPA, and rate matters, as well as representation in legislative matters involving the creation and implementation of legislative and regulatory strategies.
David E. Loder has been selected as the “Lawyer of the Year” in Philadelphia for Health Care Law. Loder focuses his practice on hospital governance, accreditation, credentialing, litigation of reimbursement issues, managed care arrangements and Medicaid and Medicare programs. He represents numerous for-profit and nonprofit organizations in the healthcare industry. Loder serves as general counsel to the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania. He is also general counsel to to Health Partners Plans, a leading provider of healthcare services to the Medicaid and Medicare populations, and to the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation, an organization that establishes standards and accredits trauma centers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Gilbert L. Brooks has been selected as the “Lawyer of the Year” in Cherry Hill for Gaming Law. Brooks practices in the areas of litigation, gaming law, criminal law, regulatory law and employment law.
Jocelyn Margolin Borowsky has been selected as the “Lawyer of the Year” in Wilmington, Delaware, for Trusts and Estates. Borowsky, a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel ("ACTEC"), practices in the areas of estate planning, estate and trust administration and fiduciary litigation in Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Borowsky routinely advises clients with respect to resolving trust administration matters, modifying trusts, structuring new Delaware trusts and transferring existing trusts to Delaware through decanting or other means. Her practice involves the review of clients' overall estate plans, preparation of wills and revocable trusts. She represents fiduciaries and beneficiaries in trust and estate litigation.
Kenneth A. Latimer has been selected as the “Lawyer of the Year” in Chicago for Equipment Finance Law. Latimer has represented secured and unsecured lenders in financing transactions including asset-based lending, credit enhancements with letters of credit, and real estate and lease financing for more than 30 years. He has also assisted lenders in workout proceedings. In addition, he has represented public and privately held companies in documenting their financial obligations. He has also assisted financial institutions in mergers and acquisitions and other regulatory issues.
Philip R. Matthews has been selected as the “Lawyer of the Year” in San Francisco for Insurance Law. Matthews practices in the area of general civil litigation and insurance counseling and litigation with an emphasis on complex cases. He has been involved in some of the largest trials and appeals in California. In addition to extensive litigation experience, Mr. Matthews has been involved in resolving complex insurance coverage disputes through alternative dispute resolution procedures including mediation and acting as specialist settlement counsel.
Robert B. Hopkins has been selected as the “Lawyer of the Year” in Baltimore for Admiralty and Maritime Law. Hopkins serves as a team lead of the firm's Transportation, Automotive and Logistics industry group. He practices in the area of complex litigation with a concentration on products safety, maritime, transportation and commercial litigation. Hopkins has also counseled clients in large-scale product recalls and reporting obligations under the laws enforced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Thomas M. Berliner has been selected as the “Lawyer of the Year” in San Francisco for Water Law. Berliner focuses his practice on water, energy, environmental and governmental/municipal law. He is chair of the firm's Water Resources and Renewable Energy and Sustainability groups. His practice includes advising public entities and private clients on all aspects of water supply, hydropower, energy development, renewable and sustainable energy practices, natural resources and environmental compliance and litigation. He also advises municipalities, special districts, private individuals and companies on municipal affairs and government procurement. Mr. Berliner represents clients before local, state and federal agencies on administrative, regulatory and legislative matters.
Walter J. Greenhalgh has been selected as the “Lawyer of the Year” in Newark, New Jersey, for Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law. Greenhalgh practices in the areas of commercial litigation and bankruptcy law, insolvency law and chapter 11 corporate and commercial reorganization. A past chair of the executive committee of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, he has been an officer of the Section for more than 10 years. He is a founding master of the New Jersey Bankruptcy Inn of Court. He is board certified as a Business Bankruptcy Law specialist by the American Board of Certification. A member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, Greenhalgh is also a member of the American and Hudson County bar associations and the Debtor-Creditor Section of the Essex County Bar Association.
